Omega-9 Oils on Facebook

What are Omega-9 Oils?

Foodservice establishments across Canada are switching to the healthier oil alternative, Omega-9 Canola Oils, replacing partially hydrogenated oils in their kitchens. Omega-9 Oils are the "next generation" in cooking oils because they not only offer zero trans fat, but also have the lowest saturated fat and are uniquely high in "heart-healthy" (omega-9) monounsaturated fat among cooking oils on the market today.

Did You Know?

Dow AgroSciences and Weaver Popcorn Company have teamed up for heart-healthier microwave popcorn.

The new Pop Weaver microwave popcorn is made with an Omega-9 shortening, developed by Dow AgroSciences, which was key in the reformulation for better taste and significant reduction in saturated fat. All three flavours in the Pop Weaver microwave popcorn line — Light Butter, Butter and Extra Butter — now feature Omega-9 Canola Oil. They can be found in most Walmart stores across Canada beginning mid-summer 2010.

The Omega-9 Solutions Team and Pop Weaver began collaborating about a year ago with one goal: a microwave popcorn with a healthier nutrition profile, but still the same great buttery flavour for which Pop Weaver is known. Most microwave popcorns on the shelves today are high in saturated fat, mostly due to the oil or shortening used. The Omega-9 Solutions Team worked together with the Pop Weaver team to develop an Omega-9 shortening solution. Mission accomplished — as compared to the leading competitor’s Movie Theater Butter Popcorn, the new Pop Weaver Extra Butter has 25 percent less calories, 50 percent less total fat and 80 percent less saturated fat.

Consumers now can feel good about their microwave popcorn snack that not only tastes better, but is better for them, too.
